About the Event

The Canal Society of New York State proudly launches the Carl and Cecelia Bobbett Annual Memorial Concert Series with a special program celebrating the Bicentennial of the Erie Canal’s completion. Join us for Two Canal Guys – An Afternoon of Music and Memories, an engaging blend of storytelling and song that brings the rich history of the canal to life.

This inaugural concert features two legendary figures of canal culture:

  • George Ward of Rexford, NY – A renowned folk musician and storyteller whose songs of the Erie Canal have educated and entertained audiences for nearly 50 years. George’s performances connect generations to the people, places, and traditions of New York’s iconic waterway.

  • Captain Steve Wunder of Montezuma, NY – A lifelong canal enthusiast and retired captain of the historic tugboat Urger. With over 30 years of service with the New York State Canal Corporation, Captain Wunder brought hands-on educational programming to thousands across the state.

Come experience an afternoon filled with canal lore, live music, and stories from the men who’ve lived and preserved its history.
