Bicentennial Bus Tour and Cruise

August 27, 2025

Canal Society of New York State presents a

Special Erie Canal Bicentennial Bus Tour and Cruise

August 27, 2025

Join us for a very singular one-day experience along the Erie Canal on Wednesday, August 27th. We will start at 8:30 AM from the parking lot of the Society's Samuel Center for Canal History at 38 Rochester Street, Port Byron, NY and return at 5:30 PM.

Highlighting the day is the three-hour cruise on the Colonial Belle, departing from its Fairport dock at 1 PM with lunch included.

On the way to Fairport we will be explore the Canal Corporation's 1930s-era shop and drydock at Lyons (thank you Canal Corporation!) along with the historic vessels stored there such as the 1909 National Register-listed, steam-powered Dipper Dredge 3. Then on to Palmyra to see Erie Barge Canal Lock 29, the 1857 Ganargua Creek Aqueduct (and learn about its uncertain future), and the very noteworthy 1858 Aldrich Change Bridge (and learn about the heroic efforts that saved this Whipple bridge!). Just before getting to the Colonial Belle, we will stop at Erie Canal Adventures in Macedon to hear about how the Wiles family built the marina and their legendary canal hireboats!

At all the stops we will have special guests to provide unique commentary.

The bus tour is not to be missed! For those who can't, please still try to make the cruise (see the registration form).

There is limited availability so please quickly confirm your registration with Craig Williams at 1735james@fairpoint.net or 518-755-4516 OR register online.
